Product Overview

For Violin, English Horn & Clarinet
By James McAllister

Composer's Notes:
Webster’s defines an elegy as a “Song or a poem expressing sorrow or lamentation especially for one who is dead,” and indeed, this piece is written in memory of my friend and colleague, Dr. Jeffery Hodapp, Professor of Tuba at Emporia State University, who passed away suddenly in December of 2009.

Those who knew “Hodes” remember him as a fine musician and educator, and an even better human being. The tragedy and suddenness of his death reminded me of my own mortality and the eternal mystery of life and death. It is my hope that the essence of this mystery is captured in this piece, dedicated to the memory of my friend. May God bless you and your family, Jeff.  Your passion for music and zeal for life is missed.
