Edward Messerschmidt
Edward “Ted” Messerschmidt is a versatile composer, performer, and music educator. His original works have been
performed around the world, from The Stone in New York City to the Leipzig Gewandhaus in Germany.
He has performed as a substitute with professional orchestras and other ensembles and has also done sideline work
on trombone for HBO. Ted earned his Doctor of Musical Arts at Boston University, writing his dissertation on Music
Education in Prisons.
He is currently the Director of Music and Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Oakwood Friends
School, and he also teaches part time at SUNY Dutchess in Poughkeepsie, New York.
In the past, Ted worked as an intern for Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, taught in prison outreach programs, and
served as the Associate Director of Bands and Orchestra Director at Marist University.
