Product Overview

This is Neopolitan song composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis, with words written by his brother Giambattista. The song was first published in 1905 and over the years has become very popular. Many artists have recorded it, notably Beniamino Gigli, Elvis Presley, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. The song was supposedly written at the request of the mayor of Sorrento in 1902, when the prime minister of Italy was a guest in town. “Torna a Surriento” is great example of the popular genre, the Neopolitan street song, sung by itinerant musicians who conveyed a lyricism in all the compositions they performed. Hopefully young musicians will do the same.
