Ormond Overture begins with a 4/4 fanfare and march in the key of E-flat, continues with a contrasting 3/4 lullaby in B-flat, and then concludes by returning to the march and fanfare. The piece was written for the Ormond Beach Junior High (now Middle School) Band under the direction of Walter C. Bailey. However, the melodies were adopted from songs which Mrs. Shapiro originally made up to sing to her then infant son.
