Heartland Harmonies was commissioned by Rick Ives, band director in the Clearwater (KS) school system. Rick was looking for an audience friendly piece to program that would combine his entire program, 5th grade through high school. I carefully crafted this piece so that it was technically playable by each level, was a duration that was appropriate for both high school and beginning bands, and was enjoyable for the band and audience alike.
This piece is rare in that it was conceived as a whole unit, but is playable separately in each of the four available versions. It can be played successfully by a beginning band, a middle school band, or a high school band. Additionally, you can choose to put everyone together and play it as a mass band selection. There are even optional instrumental parts for your high school players to enjoy. Mix and match and have fun!
