Product Overview

The Adagio, op. 30, for Double Wind Quintet was composed in 1897 while Converse was studying with Rhinberger. The choice of instrumentation and key (E-flat major) point to a familiarity with the Serenade, op. 7 for winds by Richard Strauss, a native of Munich who composed his own work for winds more than a decade prior to Converse' s. The Adagio, op. 30 is written in a modified structure of A-B-A-B-coda, with the A sections and the coda in triple meter and the B sections in duple meter.
