Product Overview
By Richard Zarou.
Written for two marimbas.
To the City explores the idea of stereo stage effects. Texturally, the piece is in a homophonic fashion; one person plays the melody and the other plays the accompaniment. A stereophonic feeling is created by switching roles between the marimbas. Staging plays a large role within this piece. The character of the piece is best described as “sneaky.” To the City is a piece that carries an aura of mystery with it.
The piece is based on a synthetic scale. The scale is a Dorian scale with a raised fourth. The scale gives the piece a chromatic jazz feel. In chordal sections, a standard Dorian scale is used.
