Product Overview
Matrix was written at the request of violinist, Alexis Nachtigal, as part of her Nebraska Sonata Project, a series of commissions by composers living in Nebraska. The request was for a piece for violin, saxophone, and piano that was a compromise of my signature lyricism, but also fused different styles that were not my usual tonalities of choice. I decided to fuse 12 tone (a matrix with which I use loosely) with elements of jazz/rock (there is even an improvisation section in the middle built from a modified Coltrane matrix). These fusion elements, combined with the contrast of instrumental colors, make for a unique and entertaining chamber experience. It was even premiered in a bar in downtown Omaha!
