Max Reger composed Three Suites for Solo Cello, Op. 131c in 1915. Although these suites are seldom performed,Largo, the third movement, attracted my attention. The lyrical writing of the second movement motivated me to transcribe this movement for horn. I wanted to transcribe this movement not only as an addition to the solo horn repertoire for the low register, but also to promote works for the range of the horn. The Largo, in B-flat Major, opens quietly and has a huge climax in the middle of the work, returning once again to the opening theme and a quiet ending.
