Product Overview
Blossom Memories expresses the pressure and anxiety I feel when navigating the balance of interacting with others in life. As a human, I have always had a slightly more difficult time interacting with others and understanding emotions. This work was originally commissioned by a friend, but we had a falling out while I was writing it. The experience left me empty and drained, and I considered not finishing the work. One day, I decided I would finish it and try to bring a new meaning to the piece. I view the bassoon and flute as a friendship—the instruments rely on each other but at times seek to be independent and go their own ways. Through a metaphorical reflection of both of these characters, they slowly relent and find their way back to each other.
An important aspect of this work is the pauses: rests should be taken exactly in time, but anytime there is a breath mark, the space is up to the performer's discretion. The dissonances should also be leaned into; they may feel uncomfortable, but that is exactly the feeling they should elicit.
