Product Overview
Inspired by experiences in the wilderness of the Colorado mountains, these short pieces are named after the progression of night. They are intended to reflect how the quality of light and ambient sounds at various times can work together to make the same location take on different qualities.
Dusk - A quiet peace quickly settles over the area as animals that are active during the day begin to find their homes, and those who prefer the night are just starting to stir. This opening movement is intended to be played at a freer tempo, allowing the melody to unfold naturally and stretch out the endings of phrases.
Umbra - The middle and darkest part of night, when the moon is covered, and trees block a clear view of the stars, the darkness makes the known seem unknown, and the shadows cover the familiar. With its unbalanced meter and restless energy, this movement should be performed with a forward momentum and melodic phrasing like a wind blowing through the trees: starting far off and soon sweeping over the listener before fading away.
Dawn - The familiar once again returns, bathed in a gentle golden light, growing slowly at first, and then bursting into full glory as the sun begins to shine over the highest peaks. This movement is meant to be performed with a steady clock-like feel to the accompaniment and a gentle sweetness to the melody.
