Product Overview
For String Orchestra
By Daniel Baldwin
The creation of this piece was quite an adventure for me. First, this piece was written during the year that my youngest child, Eryn, was very ill. By the time I composed this piece, my focus was more on the concern for my daughter. With the wonderful artistic and musical capabilities of strings in mind, I set out to write a dramatic piece that would be a nice addition to the repertoire. After completing the piece, I attended the first rehearsal and the orchestra expressed how much they liked the piece, especially the Chronicles of Narnia section. Having never seen the movie, I wasn't sure what they meant, but they were convinced that it sounded like the movie. I went home and watched the movie. They were correct. One short section sounded just like Chronicles of Narnia. I made a few adjustments to this section, but if you listen closely, you can still hear the similarity. Many thanks to Summer Miller for her faith in commissioning this piece from me, my first ensemble piece for strings.
When Dark Clouds Arise for String Orchestra was commissioned by and is gratefully dedicated to the Garden City (KS) High School Symphonic String Orchestra, Summer Miller, Director.
