Squirrel, Squirrel is an original setting of a fun text from an 1800's children's poem. The poem begins by describing a child watching a squirrel play in the yard. The end of the poem reminds us that while it is fine to play games and have fun, we must also be “careful for the future”.
This setting evokes the playfulness of the text. The vocal lines are short and frolicsome, imitating the antics of the squirrel. The dynamics and articulations are also essential to the character of the piece.
