Product Overview
As a composition, Scenes of Reflection represents my endeavor to create a choral style bassoon quartet. I envisioned a piece that would compel the ensemble members to listen attentively to each other and be prepared to assume the lead when appropriate. From a pedagogical perspective, bassoonists tend to react strongly to playing F# or G#, so I intentionally shifted toward a key that emphasized these tonalities, aiming to provide bassoonists with an opportunity to solidify their technique and become comfortable with these notes. Bassoon quartets often perform orchestral transcriptions, adventurous contemporary pieces, or the limited existing standards within our repertoire. This composition offers a chance for reflection and enjoyment of the music created with fellow musicians.
