For String Orchestra (Grade 2)
By Sarah Siegler
The melody of Main Street South depicts the simple joy of activity on a main street in a small town, whether people setting up for a parade, or enjoying a walk or a run on a sunny day. The composer drove on Main Street South each day on the way to teaching middle school in central Connecticut, and thought her students would enjoy a tune about a street they traveled or walked on every day. The melody is passed throughout each section and the piece is a good opportunity for students to play pizzicato and col legno.
