Product Overview
By C.P.E. Bach. For Baritone, Bassoon and Piano
Bach composed the oratorio The Israelites in the Desert in 1769, utilizing a libretto by Daniel Schiebeler (1741-1771). The C-minor baritone aria, "God, See Thy People," No. 15 in the score, is the only specified use of the bassoon in the entire piece. Bach previews Moses' s melodic material in the obbligato bassoon but does not provide any opportunity for duet work between the solo voice and the instrument. This performing edition for voice, bassoon, and piano is based on a reduction of the orchestral string parts and the continua line. The paucity of dynamic markings reflects those found in the orchestral score, allowing the soloists free rein for their own expressive ideas.
