For SATB & Piano (Grade 4/5)
By Bradley Vogel
This energetic Latin setting of Psalm 96:1-4 for SATB divisi and piano employs mixed meters and various textures to communicate the call for all people to “Sing to the Lord a new song.” In ternary form with introduction and coda, the outer sections of the setting are strongly rhythmic and dance-like. The middle section portrays the mystery of God's greatness, with chromatic figures sung against an open fifth ostinato in the piano. The setting was written for and premiered by the Wichita, Kansas, All-City High School Honor Choir, and is suitable for medium-advanced high school choirs and college choirs.
