Luke Flynn (b. 1988), finalist for the 2013 American Prize in Composition, is a currently pursuing a masters degree in music composition at Butler University, where he studies with Dr. Michael Schelle. He holds a bachelors degree from Clarke University, where he studied with Dr. Amy Dunker, and is the recipient of the University's most prestigious award honored to a single graduating senior, the Francis J. O'Connor Memorial Award. Flynn has also had the privilege of being the first ever American student to study music composition at the International University of Kagoshima in Japan, where he studied with Dr. Tadashi Kubo. Flynn's compositions have been performed all throughout the world (including commissions in countries such as Japan and South Korea), and he has won or has placed as a finalist in over 15 national and international compositions contests. Recently, he was a winner of the San Jose Choral Project Composition Competition, a finalist in the Susanville Symphony Orchestra Composition Contest, and his piece, Sancta Caecilia, for chorus and wind band, set to his original text in Latin, was selected as a finalist in the International Composition Contest for Sacred Music.
