Darin Tysdal

Darin Tysdal has been a vital force in the Twin Cities music scene for the last 26 years. He is a composer, pianist and conductor. He has his B.M. in composition from Moorhead State University where he studied under Henry Gwiazda and Paul Koonce, and his M.M. in composition from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where he studied under M. William Karlins, and Michael Pizaro. He has also been in composition masterclasses with T.J. Anderson, Ned Rorem and John Rutter. 

 

His compositions include the Mardi Gras Overture for Orchestra, first performed by the Dakota Valley Symphony, Steve Ramsey, conductor, two piano sonatas, two piano concertos, Sonata for Contraforte and Piano written for Lewis Lipnick of the National Symphony Orchestra, a viola concerto, and numerous piano pieces. His alto saxophone concerto was part of the first reading session of the Minnesota Composer's forum workshop consisting of orchestral works. 

 

He considers himself an eclectic composer, using many different styles in his compositions. Future works include a violin concerto for violinist Sarah Wright.
