Alexander Safford

Alexander Safford is the orchestra director at Orchard Park High School, where he is also an instructor of music composition and an instrumental music conductor for the high school musicals. He has served as a guest conductor for all-county festivals in New York State at the junior high and high school levels.

Mr. Safford was born and raised in Montana, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in modern languages from Montana State University. He subsequently earned a Masters of Music degree in music composition from the University of Arizona.

In addition to being a teacher and conductor, Mr. Safford is an active composer who has been commissioned to write music for string orchestra, children's chorus and chamber ensembles. He was the winner of the 2002 Texas Orchestra Director's Association composition competition for his work Jamboree for Strings, and the winner of the American String Teacher's Association 2012 Merle J. Isaac Senior Composition Competition for The Call of the Sea. Mr. Safford lives in Western New York with his wife and two children.
