Product Overview

For English Horn and Piano
By Antonio Pasculli.

Antonio Pasculli was one of the most important oboists during the 19th century; he lived in Palermo, Italy, and gave many concerts in Europe showing his incredible virtuosity; in fact he was also known as "The Paganini of the oboe." The greatest part of his output as a composer is devoted to the oboe and to the English Horn (above all fantasias on the most famous Italian operas by Verdi, Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini). He wrote only 4 works for the English Horn: 2 fantasias on Verdi's Un ballo in maschera (for English Horn and piano), Hommage a Bellini (for English Horn and harp) and the present Melodia for English Horn and piano. This work is published here for the first time and does not display the virtuosity required by the Fantasias or Concertos. The melody is charming and the English Horn is helped in singing by the piano part. I followed the manuscript and I corrected only few inconsistencies of slurs and harmony.
