COMPOSER'S NOTES
Heart of the Andes was written as a companion piece to my popular chamber work, Landscapes, of the same instrumentation. This is my third work inspired by the stunning landscapes art of Frederic Edwin Church, and I am sure it will not be my last. The work is in a sectional form with very little repeated material. It alternates stately passages depicting the monolithic mountain backdrop with pastoral passages depicting the beautiful valley below.
Heart of the Andes is dedicated to my friend, Richard Ramey.
