When Bill Sherrill departed for college with piano and voice scholarships, there were fond hopes within his family of a musical career for him. However, college tennis and the study of chemistry soon displaced and delayed those hopes. After college and during a working career which included stints as a Naval Flight Officer, Intelligence Collection Specialist, and Chief Administrator for large law firms, he kept in touch with music by singing in varied oratorio and symphony choruses. He retired early to study music and has been composing ever since. He also works as a Church Musician which provides a ready venue for conducting, composing, and arranging. Bill's degrees are from Erskine College, North Greenville University, and the University of Southern California, and he has also studied postgraduate composition and choral conducting at Converse College and Westminster Choir College, respectively.
He is a member of the Society of Composers International, the American Choral Directors Association, the American Society of Composers and Publishers, and The Hymn Society. He composes and arranges in many musical genres and for most instruments, but specializes in choral music.
Bill was recognized in 2007 as “one of America's finest emerging composers” by Harold Rosenbaum, conductor of the New York Virtuoso Singers. His works have been premiered in New York City, at Ithaca College, West Chester University, and North Greenville University; by the Spartanburg (SC) Festival Chorus, and in many churches. He resides in Greenville, SC.
